How Cloud Computing is Changing the Field for Business Operations

According to a recent article from Forbes, although search traffic for the term “cloud computing” has tapered off since its peak in 2011, the real story of cloud computing remains one in its early chapters. Having become as much a necessity for many businesses as phones and electricity, the focus of cloud computing is now shifting from one of strictly IT to one of business operations.

Cloud computing has the ability to transform a business from a hierarchy to a network, the article stated. Businesses are reorganizing into a structure made of groups or teams who possess a certain set of skills or relationships in the company. By using the cloud, these self-directed teams can access the information and the resources they need without relying on a central authority.

The statistics regarding the cloud back up the notion that it is bolstering relationships and building collaboration in businesses. In a study done by the IBM Center for Applied Insights, it was found that businesses using the cloud were 179 percent more likely to use analysis to drive insights, and 136 percent more likely to use it to build customer relationships. 79 percent of the businesses studied were more likely to use the cloud to locate and leverage expertise within their company.
